Fidyk
Bio An accomplished percussionist and educator, Steve Fidyk is in demand as a player, clinician, and studio musician with more than thirty recordings to his credit, including three Grammy Award nominations. His recordings and performances range from children's music to jazz with such artists as Maureen McGovern, New York Voices; Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer; Tom Paxton; Mark Taylor; the Woody Herman Orchestra; and Michael Abene. Currently the drummer with the Army Blues Jazz Ensemble, Steve has performed at the White House, The Vice President's home and for numerous diplomatic functions throughout Washington DC. Fidyk is also very active in the education field. He has recently recorded 30 jazz play-along volumes for the Hal Leonard Corporation to help younger musicians develop their improvisational skills. He has also written educational articles for the Ludwig Drum Company, the Zildjian Cymbal Company, Modern Drummer Magazine, and Percussive Notes and has contributed drum transcriptions to the Hal Leonard publication Drum Standards and Peter Erskines The Drum Perspective. In January 2003, his new Zildjian Drum Stick "Big Band Jazz" will be premiered at the National Association of Musical Merchandisers Trade Show. Fidyk has served on the faculty at Wilkes University, St. Mary's College of Maryland and is currently the director of drum set studies at George Mason University and the University of Maryland, College Park. Steve attributes his success to his great teachers: his mother and father; wife Tamela and sons Tony and Joey; Angelo Stella, Robert Nowak, Ed Soph, Kim Plainfield, John Riley, and Joe Morello. Steve Fidyk holds a masters
degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Maryland and a bachelors
in Music Education from Wilkes University.
